Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

In accordance with REACH Regulation 1907/2006, Annex X, Column 2, studies of the effects on soil organisms need be conducted if exposure assessment indicates a concern for exposure to that environmental compartment.

The physico-chemical properties of the substance, together with fugacity modelling, indicate that it may be expected to be distributed into soil should environmental release occur. There is the potential for adsorption to soil and it cannot be assumed that, in tests on soil organisms, exposure through pore water will not differ significantly from that in water. As a result, hazards resulting from uptake of soil cannot be excluded.

Data on a sediment reworker, Chironomus riparius, are available and could be taken as an indicator that effects on soil organisms may be minimal. In this study a No Observed Effect Concentration (NOEC), based on the number of emerged adult insects, mean emergence time (development rate) and sex ratio of emerged adults, determined at 1000 mg/kg dry weight based on the nominal concentration, and 740 mg/kg dry weight based on the mean measured concentration of the substance in sediment.

Experimental data are available on a structural analogue to the substance, 1,2,4 -Benzenetricarboxylic acid, mixed decyl and octyl triesters, which does not produce acute or chronic toxicity to earthworms or plants at high concentrations in soil.
