Derived from its physicochemical properties and environmental exposure patterns, Triethanol amineacetate is not considered to pose a risk to the environment.

 

Triethanol amineacetate is manufactured in aqueous solution with greater than 80% purity and up to 20% other alkanol amine salts present as impurities. The main impurity is Diethanol amineacetate which has similar physicochemical properties to Triethanol amineacetate.

 

Based on exposure considerations, environmental release of Triethanol amineacetate during manufacture and use is not likely to occur.

 

Companies under this joint submission manufacture Triethanol amineacetate for their own use in production of preparations to be used as grinding agent for cement manufacturing, therefore the substance is manufactured, formulated into products and tranported for use in cement production and then incorporated in cement at very low concentrations where any release to the environmental compartments is negligible.

 

Manufacturing, transport, charge and discharge are conducted essentially in closed systems under controlled operational conditions with correspondent risk management measures implemented, therefore during release to the environment is unlikely during the manufacturing process. Negligible accidental leakages can occur during sampling or maintenance operations and no environmental exposure is expected in the final product use.

 

Taking into account other relevant chemical properties affecting Triethanol amineacetate’s behaviour in the environment, the low partition coefficient (log Kow<-1.31) indicates a low potential for bioaccumulation, and a low potential for sediment absoption. Moreover, Triethanol amineacetate is considered as inherently biodegradable, as it is degraded up to 60% after 28 days in aqueous solution under experimental conditions.

 

For the reasons stated above, Triethanol amineacetate exposure to the environment is not likely to occur. Furthermore, the intrinsic properties of the substance indicate that it is of low environmental concern.
