Abiotic degradation

In a hydrolysis study the hydrolysis of DBTL was concluded to be initially rapid, however, an equilibrium was then concluded to occur between DBTL and DBT mono-laurate. A definitive rate of hydrolysis could not be determined. For the purpose of the risk assessment DBTL was therefore assumed to be stable to hydrolysis.

Biotic degradation

DBTL is not readily biodegradable in a study to the OECD 301F guideline. 23% biodegradation was observed after 39 days. This is presumed to be due to biodegradation of free laurate ligands after hydrolysis of DBTL to DBT mono-laurate. Simulation tests are not available. In the absence of such information DBTL is concluded to be stable to biodegradation.
