Details on study design:
Groups of four male Swiss Webster mice were exposed for a single, 30-minute period to a concentration of airborne test substance in air to  assess sensory irritation potential. Mice were first weighed then placed  into body plethysmographs 
prior to exposure and acclimated to the  exposure chamber for approximately ten minutes. During this preexposure,  
respiratory rates were monitored and recorded to establish a baseline  respiration rate. Exposure to the test substance 
was conducted during the  next 30 minutes followed by a post exposure monitoring period of at least  10 minutes. Mice 
were then removed from the chamber, weighed, and  observed for clinical signs of toxicity prior to sacrifice. Respiratory  
function parameters were monitored during all preexposure, exposure, and  postexposure periods.

RD50: calculated concentration that will produce a 50 % depression in respiratory rate
Exposures to 460, 1500, 2100, 2900, or 3800 mg/m3 of Lauryl methacrylate caused both respiratory rate decreases and
persistent breathing patterns of sensory irritation at the higher concentrations. The decrease in respiratory rate and
the severity of irritation was dose-dependent.
The high RD50 level indicate a low potential for causing upper respiratory tract irritation.

Conclusions:
The high RD50: 3.9 mg/L level for Dodecyl methacrylate indicate a low potential for causing upper respiratory tract irritation.
