Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Two OECD 203 guideline GLP studies with nominal test concentrations above 10000 mg/L showed no toxicity to Danio rerio.
Therefore, it appears that saturated solutions of the long-chain methacrylate esters are non-toxic to fish. The results are confirmed by further studies.

Additional information

Read across to structural analogue substance Isotridecyl methacrylate and Octadecyl methacrylate (category member substance):

LC50 [96 h] > 10000 mg / L

There are two guideline / GLP studies available which represent the whole range of long-chain methacrylate esters from C12 to C22.

Concentrations used in the available tests are up to five orders of magnitude above the water solubility of the long-chain methacrylate esters (C12-C22) which is < 1 µg/l. Therefore, emulsions or even two-layer systems of the esters with water have been tested instead of solutions setting a limitation to the validity of the studies. However, it appears that saturated solutions of the long-chain methacrylate esters are non-toxic to fish. Further acute toxicity to fish studies on long-chain methacrylate esters with limited documentation are confirming these test results.
