Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Key result
Surface tension:
47.7 mN/m
Temp.:
20 °C
Conc.:
15 vol%

There were two runs of measurement of ten determinations each. The mean value of the first run is 47.69 mN/m that of the second run 47.76 mN/m.

Surface tension (at 20 °C): 47.7 mN/m

.

Conclusions:
The surface tension of the test item 15 % peracetic acid at 20 °C is 47.7 mN/m.
Executive summary:

The surface tension of an aqueous solution containing 15 % of the test item was determined according to OECD guideline no. 115 and EU test method A.5 with the ring method. There were no deviations from the guidelines.

There were two runs of measurement of ten determinations each. The mean value of the first run is 53.25 mN/m that of the second run 54.82 mN/m.

Surface tension (at 20 °C): 54.0 mN/m

Conclusions:
The surface tension of the test item 5 % peracetic acid at 20 °C is 54.0 mN/m.
Executive summary:

The surface tension of an aqueous solution containing 5 % of the test item was determined according to OECD guideline no. 115 and EU test method A.5 with the ring method. There were no deviations from the guidelines.

Surface tension (at 20 °C): 54.0 mN/m

Description of key information

Surface tension (Ring method): 54.0 mN/m (5% neat solution), 47.7 mN/m (15% neat solution)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Surface tension:
47.7
in mN/m at 20°C and concentration in mg/L:
150

Additional information

Surface tension values of 47.7 mN/m and 54.0 mN/m at 20 °C were measured with the ring method for the 15% and 5% products, respectively (Mekelburger, 2007). The lower value is used as key value. This indicates that peracetic acid does not need to be regarded as surface active, because only substances exhibiting a surface tension < 60 mN/m when tested at a concentration of 0.1% are regarded as surface active.
