- As the test substance is poorly soluble in water, a 1 g/L mixture in M4 medium without NaHCO3 and FeSO4 containing Na2EDTA was prepared. This mixture was stirred for 18 hours and filtrated afterwards. The filtrate showed an initial content of 4.1 mg/L DOC. The filtrate was used as Stock solution.
For changes of test solutions every second or third day during the test the stock solution was deep-frozen at -18°C. One day before application the required amount of the frozen stock solution was thawed and after sampling for analytical purpose mixed with NaHCO3 and FeSO4 containing Na2EDTA. - Test organisms (species):

The effect of 1,2,4-Benzenetricarboxylic acid, mixed decyl and octyl triesters on the immobilisation of Daphnia magna had been studied in accordance with OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals No. 202 part II.
Daphnia magna was exposed to 1,2,4-Benzenetricarboxylic acid, mixed decyl and octyl triesters in a semistatic reproduction test over 21 days. As the test substance is poorly soluble in water, a 1 g/L mixture with synthetic freshwater was prepared. This mixture was stirred for 18 hours and filtrated afterwards. For changes of test solutions during the test the stock solution was deep-frozen at -18°C. The analytical determination of the defrosted stock solutions used for the test showed that they were stable within the 3 days of exposure (deviation > 20%), therefore the mean of the measured values (4.5 mg/L) were used for evaluation.
The highest tested concentration at which no negative effects were observed on the reproduction rate or survival of parental animals is: NOEC >= 4.5 mg/L (highest test concentration under test conditions).
The lowest tested concentration at which the first significant effects were observed on the reproduction rate or survival of the parent animals is: LOEC > 4.5 mg/L (highest concentration under test conditions).
