Additional information

We have used the SRTC (1996) study as the key study for short tem toxicity to fish, aquatic invertebrates and algae. It is also the key study for these endpoints in the EU RAR (2008) for 2,4,4 -trimethylpentene. Since the EU RAR was produced, a long term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates study has been conducted and this has been selected as key. All studies selected as key are GLP compliant and follow standard guidelines.

The most conservative value reported is a 96 hour LC50 of 0.58 mg/L for acute toxicity to fish and a 0.16 mg/L 21 day NOEC for chronic toxicity to aquatic invertebrates. This would result in a category 1 chronic hazard to the environment and the hazard statement 'very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects' in the classification and labelling assessment.
