Description of key information

No acute aquatic toxicity to fish of a calcium silicate [LL50(96 h) >1000 mg/L).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A loading of 1000 mg calcium silicate/L (as suspension) produced slightly increased mortality in fish under test conditions within 96 h of exposure (PPG 1971). It is assumed that the freshwater results are also applicable to marine life, i.e. no acute aquatic toxicity expected from exposure to synthetic amorphous calcium silicates (CS).
