Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

TMQ is an organic solid pastille at room temperature with a melting point of 48°C (Currenta, 2010) and a very low vapour pressure <4.8 * 10-6 hPa at 25°C (Monsanto, 1980). Therefore inhalation exposure to vapour can be excluded.

TMQ is a complex reaction mass (Mw approx. 500 g/mol) with partially undefined composition (UVCB). The fractions with log Pow lower than 5 accounted for 18% of the total area with an average log Pow of 3.9. The rest had an average log Pow of 6.2. TMQ is expected to be mostly insoluble in water (Bayer AG, 1989). Due to the physicochemical properties intestinal absorption might be assumed. This is confirmed by acute and chronic studies. NOEL for repeated dose toxicity is considered to be 12 mg/kg-bw/day with target organs liver and adrenals.

As the acute dermal toxicity study in rabbits yielded signs of systemic toxicity and mortality at 7940 mg/kg bw only, and the molecular mass of approx. 500 g/mol is suggestive for low dermal absorption.
