Additional information

Phototransformation in air (cited from the US EPA Document 1989): Using the method of Atkinson (1985), the half-life of the gas-phase reaction of benzyl alcohol with photochemically produced hydroxyl radicals in the atmosphere is estimated to be 2 days, based on a calculated rate constant of 5.11 x 10-15 cm3/molecules-sec and an average atmospheric hydroxyl radical concentration of 5 x 105 molecules/cm3 (US EPA Document 1989). In addition, benzyl alcohol is not susceptible to oxidation by ozone in the atmosphere (Atkinson 1985 cited in US EPA Document 1989).
