Description of key information

Biodegradation in water: screening tests: Not readily biodegradable: 0% (inorganic carbon analysis) in 28 days (OECD 310) for hydrolysis product trimethylsilanol

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
under test conditions no biodegradation observed

Additional information

No data is available for the submission substance, chlorotrimethylsilane. However, chlorotrimethylsilane hydrolyses very rapidly in contact with water to give trimethylsilanol and hydrogen chloride. A biodegradation rate of 0% for trimethylsilanol has been determined in a reliable study conducted according to an appropriate test protocol (OECD 310), and in compliance with GLP. This is selected as the key study. Biodegradation is not relevant for hydrogen chloride as it is inorganic.
