Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Acccording to Meylan et.al. (1999) the risk for bioaccumulation declines at log Kow values >6, and the aquatic BCF is most likely <2000 L/kg if the calculated log Kow is >10 (TGD R.11, p.28). With a log Kow value of 11.2482 AKD is therefore considered of low potential for bioaccumulation.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

There are inherent difficulties in testing the bioaccumulation of poorly soluble substances. Direct and indirect exposure of the aquatic compartment is limited, and the water phase may not be the primary route of exposure for a substance with very low solubility. The octanol-water partition coefficient is therefore estimated by calculations (Epi SuiteTM caculation by KOWWINTM) Log Kow = 11.2482 correlate with IUCLID calculations

The predicted log Kow value of AKD initially indicates that AKD has the potential to bioaccumulate. The relationship between high log Kow values and bioaccumulation has been investigated, demonstrating that at log Kow values >6 the risk for bioaccumulation declines (Meylan, WM et al, 1999, Env Tox Chem vol 18, no 4, pp 664-672). With a log Kow value of 11.2482 AKD should therefore be considered as not bioaccumulative.
