Description of key information

Simulation Testing in Ultimate Degradation in Surface Water

In accordance with column 2, point 9.2.1.2 of Annex IX, simulation testing on ultimate degradation in surface water does needs not to be conducted as the substance is not soluble in water. Furthermore, in accordance with point 3 of Annex XI of the Regulation EC 1907/2006 further degradation tests do not need to be performed as the results of the chemical safety assessment indicate that direct exposure of the aquatic environment will not occur from the use of the test material and indirect exposure will be low.

Until very recently, the substance was indeed considered to be highly insoluble in water and as such the above waiver has been submitted. As part of the ongoing CoRAP evaluation additional investigations are currently being conducted and studies are still ongoing. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the substance may be more soluble than originally thought. However, exposure to the substance is not expected due to the stringent control mechanisms in place throughout the lifecycle of the substance and so the Annex XI waiver is considered to be fully applicable regardless of the eventual results of ongoing physico-chemical properties studies.

Sediment Simulation Testing (for substances with a high potential for adsorption to sediment)

In accordance with point 3 of Annex XI and column 2, point 9.2.1.4 of Annex IX of the Regulation EC 1907/2006, sediment simulation testing does not need to be performed as the results of the chemical safety assessment indicate that direct exposure of the sediment will not occur from the use of the test material and indirect exposure will be low.
