Description of key information

No long-term toxicity studies in aquatic invertebrates are available for propylene glycol methyl ether.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Propylene glycol methyl ether is classified as readily biodegradable. The risk assessment shows that the PEC/PNEC ratio is clearly <1 in surface water, indicating no need for further information or testing. Acute toxicity tests were conducted for the three trophic levels showing that invertebrates are the least sensitive species. According to REACH Annex IX requirements, long-term toxicity testing shall only be considered when the chemical safety assessment indicates the need for further investigations. Hence, long-term testing in daphnia magna can be waived for propylene glycol methyl ether.
