Short term tests with species of 3 trophic levels are available. Fish is the most sensitive species with an LC50 (96h) which ranges between a NOEC of 18 ppm and a LOEC of 24 ppm. Short-term effects of the substance towards daphnia and algae were found greater than 112 ppm and greater than 85 mg/l respectively.

Thus the reaction mass of dimethyl adipate and dimethyl glutarate and dimethyl succinate is considered as harmful to the aquatic organisms. Inhibition to activated sludge is not anticipated since the substance is readily biodegradable.
