In accordance with Annex VII, Section 7.11, Column 2 of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (REACH), a study for explosive properties does not need to be conducted if there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule. The structure of the substance has been assessed for chemical groups that are associated with explosivity. Examples of such groups are: C-C unsaturated, C-metal, N-metal, contiguous oxygen atoms, contiguous nitrogen atoms, N-halogens, O-halogens, N-O as described in Brethericks’ Handbook of Reactive Chemical Hazards, 4th Edition, butterworths, London, 1990. An expert review of the substance itself and available data concludes that magnesium hydrogenorthophosphate does not possess any functional groups associated with explosive properties nor is it capable of rapid decomposition with evolution of gases or release of heat. Therefore, testing for explosive properties does not need to be conducted.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on assessment of the molecular structure (presence of chemical groups associated with explosive properties) and expert judgement, the substance is considered to be non explosive for the purpose of classification and labelling according to Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP).
