Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Flammability: non flammable (Expert judgement/Prediction based on molecular structure)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

Magnesium hydrogenorthophosphate is not considered to be flammable. The substance is handled and used in air and therefore spontaneous ignition in air (pyrophoricity) is not anticipated. In addition, the substance is not known to be flammable in contact with water. According to the guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.7a section 7.1.10.3 inorganic compounds where the inorganic element is in its highest possible oxidation state are incapable of further reaction with oxygen and can thus be designated as non-flammable. The phosphorus present in the substance is already present in the highest oxidation phase and therefore testing for flammability is considered to be scientifically unjustified.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on assessment of the molecular structure (presence of chemical groups associated with flammable properties) and expert judgement, the substance is considered to be non flammable for the purpose of classification and labelling according to Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP).
