Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Adequacy of study:
weight of evidence
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
data from handbook or collection of data
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The normal boiling point for tetramethylsilane is based on experimental data (Ashton, J.G., Kennedy, R.M., Messerly, J.F., The Heat Capacity and Entropy, Heats of Fusion and Vaporization and the Vapor Pressure of Silicon Tetramethyl. J. Maer. Chem. Soc., 63, (1941) 2343) that was evaluated and found acceptable by the AIChE DIPPR (1). Original test procedures and conditions used to measure the boiling point were not identified in the AIChE DIPPR Project 801® Database.

The AIChE DIPPR 801 Database specifies that the uncertainty associated with the normal boiling point value for tetramethylsilane is < 1%.

Conclusions:
A boiling point value of 26.6°C (299.8 K) at 1013 hPa was reported for the substance in a handbook or collection of reliable data which has been subject to peer-review and in which the original data sources are traceable. The result is considered to be reliable.

Additional information

Boiling point values in the range of 26.6 - 27°C at 1013 hPa were reported for the submission substance in handbooks or collections of reliable data which have been subject to peer review and in which the original data sources are traceable. The results are considered to be reliable and are used as weight of evidence.

In available secondary sources to which reliability could not be assigned, boiling point values in the range 26.5 - 26.6°C at 1013 hPa were reported for the substance.

In another secondary source, a boiling point value of 125.5°C at 1013 hPa was reported for the substance. The result is inconsistent with other available data and as such is disregarded.
