Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Transport and distribution of zinc bis(2-ethylhexanoate) in the environment is most accurately evaluated by separately assessing the fate of its dissociation products, zinc cations and 2-ethylhexanoic acid anions.

Zinc: The coefficient for partitioning of zinc between particulate matter and water (Kpsusp) of 109,648 L/Kg was derived for EU waters whereas the Kp for the distribution between sediment and water (Kpsed) was estimated with 73,000 L/kg. For saltwater, a partition coefficient water/suspended matter of 6010 L/kg was derived. For soil, a solids-water partitioning coefficient of 158.5 L/kg was determined experimentally.

2 –ethylhexanoic acid: Reliable data according to OECD TG 106 indicate that significant adsorption of 2-ethylhexanoic acid to the solid soil phase (e.g. clay) is not expected. Due to its low Henry's Law constant, evaporation from the water surface is also not anticipated. Based on modelling the distribution in environmental compartments (Mackay LEVEL 1 v3.0) using standard environmental properties (Mackay, 2001), 2 -ethylhexanoate will preferentially partition into water.
