Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No biodegradation was observed during the test period following OECD 301 D (Ready biodegradability), closed bottle test

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
under test conditions no biodegradation observed

Additional information

The ready biodegradability of Phenothiazine was determined with the Closed Bottle Test according to OECD guideline 301 D and EC method C.4-E(Commission Regulation (EC)No 440/2008). Phenothiazine was tested at a nominal concentration of 2 mg/L.

The criterion for ready biodegradability of 60 % removal of the ThOD within 28 days was not reached. Therefore, the test item is considered as not readily biodegradable.

The test result is supported by a Japanese MITI-study.

The toxicity control of the test performed gave no hint for a negative impact on the respiration rate of the microorganisms of sewage treatment plants (STP).
