Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

There is no data available for this substance per se. There is data available for the lowest molecular weight component of this substance, that is also usually present at a significant concentration. In a guideline activated sludge respiration inhibition test using 2-(2-(2-butoxyethoxy)ethoxy)ethanol, no effects were observed up to the maximum tested concentration of 1995mg/l. In a bacterial growth inhibition study using sewage micro-organisms, the IC50 was found to be greater than 5000mg/l. Neither study contains sufficient detail to be used soley as a key study and therefore a weight of evidence approach is used to fulfil the requirements for this end point. The key parameter is selected as the lowest of the two values available. This result can be considered as representative of the toxicity of the substance

"Poly(oxy-1,2-ethanediyl), α-butyl-ω-hydroxy" Based on other glycol ethers,

aquatic toxicity decreases with increasing molecular weight within a given alkyl homologous series. Therefore the most 'toxic' component is likely to be the one for which data is available and therefore data from the latter can be considered as a conservative surrogate for the substance "Poly(oxy-1,2-ethanediyl), α-butyl-ω-hydroxy" as a whole.
