Additional information

A number of studies have been carried out using multiple species of fish, both fresh and salt water. One study in two species is sufficiently well reported to judge it as reliable and this can be used to derive the key parameters. All the other available experimental studies, whilst not individually robust, report data that is consistent with the key study and provide strong evidence that 2 -(2 -methoxyethoxy)ethanol is practically non-toxic to fish over the acute timeframe. The key parameter however is selected from a study for which the results are only currently available from a secondary source. This study is selected as it provides the lowest reported true LD50 reported in any of the studies that are available. This 96hr LC50 is 5700mg/l.

There is sufficient information available on the short term toxicity of 2 -(2 -methoxyethoxy)ethanol to Daphnia Magna from studies that were carried out to acceptable methods to be able to judge that the substance is of very low toxicity to invertebrates. No effects were seen at the highest concentrations tested in two of the studies and the third established an EC50 above these levels. The latter result is used for the key parameter EC50 for this taxonomic group.
