Description of key information

The adsorption of 14C-2,6 -DTBP was tested in batch equilibrium studies using three sediment types (EPA-5, EPA-8, and EPA15). 14C-2,6 -DTBP was shown to be stable during the 112 hour equilibration period, as determined by high performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) analysis of the adsorption supernatant from a test replicate. The results indicated that the adsorption characteristics were similar among the three sediment types tested. The adsorption constants based upon the organic carbon content were 2570 (EPA-5 sediment), 6960 (EPA-8 sediment) and 6960 (EPA-15 sediment) The mean value of 4493 L/Kg is used for the CSA. There was little apparent correlation of adsorption constant with sediment texture, organic matter, cation exchange capacity or pH.
