Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

There are no experimental data available.

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex X, the long-term toxicity testing to sediment organisms shall be proposed depending on the results of the chemical safety assessment. PACM is not expected to accumulate significantly in organisms. Results from the pelagic studies indicate that PACM is acutely toxic (EC50 >1 - <= 10 mg/L), but not acutely very toxic. The chronic data from algae indicate that the NOEC is > 1 mg/L. The equilibrium partitioning method can be used to assess the hazard for sediment organisms.

The chemical safety assessment for PACM (CAS 1761-71-3) demonstrates that 1) the exposure levels estimated for aquatic habitats do not exceed the appropriate PNEC, and 2) the likelihood and severity of an event occurring due to the physicochemical properties of the substance is negligible. Therefore, the criteria for adaptation are met in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex 1, Section 6.4. Specifically, all risk characterisation rations are under 1.0, and direct and indirect exposure to sediment is unlikely as demonstrated by the attached exposure assessments. There are no physicochemical hazards identified for this substance. Further testing is not indicated.
