Additional information

Arthur et al (1974) presents 32 week NOEC results of >54 mg/L NTA for survival and reproduction for the fathead minnow, Pimephales promelas. Study was performed by exposing 3 -15 day old fry to measured concentrations of NTA for 32 weeks. Mortality, spawing activity and hatchability were assessed. The F1 generation was exposed for 30 days to NTA and growth assessed. A 30 day NOEC of > 60.2 mg/L was presented for the growth rate of the F1 generation. Birge et al. (1979) exposed rainbow trout embryos for 27 days (4 days post-hatch) to measured concentrations of NTA at two different hardnesses. Mortality was assessed at hatch and 4 days post-hatch. The27 day LC50 for 50 mg/L hardness test = 90.5 mg/L and, for 200 mg/L hardness test the LC50 = 114 mg/L. This study is considered supporting.

This study was chosen as key study as it was the most sensitive reliable data for long-term toxicity of NTA to freshwater fish.
