First-aid measures

General Advice:

First-aid responders should wear protective gloves and in case of spillages respiratory protection. Remove victims from danger zone. Remove contaminated clothing immediately.

If inhaled:

Keep patient calm, remove to fresh air, seek medical advice.

On skin contact:

Wipe of, wash immediately with polyethylene glycol if available, followed by plenty of water. Consult a medical doctor in case of skin irritation persists.

On contact with eyes:

Immeadiately wash affected eyes with plenty of water for 10 minutes or more with eyelids held open. Consult eye specialist.

If swallowed:

Immediately rinse mouth with water, do not induce vomiting, seek medical attention.

Note to the physician:

Breathing difficulties may appear with several hours delay. Administer corticosteroid dose aerosol to prevent pulmonary edema. Treat according to symptoms. No specific antidote known.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media:

dry extinguishng media, carbon dioxide, alcohol-resistant foam, water spray.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions:

Wear personal protective equipment including breathing apparatus. Ensure good ventilation.

Handling and storage

Handling:

Provide suitable exhaust ventilation at the processing machines. Ensure thorough ventilation of stores and work area. Avoid aerosol formation. Wear respiratory protection when handling heated product or while spraying. Protect against moisture. Danger of bursting if contaminated with water and sealed gastight. Products freshly manufactured from isocyanates can contain incompletely reacted isocyanates and other dangerous substances.  Completely cured polyurethanes (24 h after production) can generally be handled without PPE.

Storage: Store in dry, well-ventilated store-room in tightly closed drums and containers, under nitrogen blanket. Containers that have been opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage. Do not store in unlabelled containers. Unsuitable containers: Copper, copper alloy and galvanised surfaces

Exposure controls / personal protection

Components with workplace control parameters:

CAS-No.: 91-08-7: toluene-2,6-diisocyanate.

MK value (max. concentration): 0,035 mg/m3   (regulation of Hungary)

CAS-No.: 584-84-9: 4-methyl-m-phenylene diisocyanate

MK value (max. concentration): 0,035 mg/m3   (regulation of Hungary)

Personal protective equipment:

respiratory protection:

filter for organic gases with particle filter, at least A2P2 (EN 143 or 149)

hand protection:

Chemical resistant protective gloves (EN 374).

Suitable materials also with prolonged, direct contact (recommended: protective index 6, corresponding > 480 minutes of permeation time according to EN 374):

nitrile rubber (NBR) - 0.4 mm coating thickness

butyl rubber (butyl) - 0.7 mm coating thickness

chloroprene rubber (CR) - 0.5 mm coating thickness.

Unsuitable materials:

polyvinylchloride (PVC) - 0.7 mm coating thickness

Eye protection:

Safety glasses with side-shieleds (frame goggles) (e.g. EN 166)

Body protection:

safety shoes (e.g. according to EN 20346)

General safety and hygiene measures:

Do not breath vapours/spray. With products freshly manufatured from isocyanates body protection and chemical resistant protective gloves is recommended. Wearing of closed work clothing is required and additionally to the stated personal protective equipent. Keep away from drink, food and animal feeding stuffs. No eating, drinking, smoking or tobacco use at the place of work. Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Hands and face should be washed before breaks and at the end of shift. At the end of the shift the skin should be cleaned and skin-care agents applied.

Stability and reactivity

Conditions to avoid: temperatures above 40 °C (quality reasons)

Avoid moisture.

Thermal decomposition: 230 °C.

Substances to avoid: copper, zinc, tin, acids, alcohols, amines, water, alkalines, copper alloys, aluminum compounds, strong oxidizing agents.

Hazardous reactions:

On contact with water, carbon dioxide is formed which causes build-up of pressure in tightly closed containers. Risk of bursting. May react violently with ammmonia solution, primary and secondary amines, primary alcohols and hot water.

No hazardous decomposition products if stored and handled as prescribed/indicated.

Disposal considerations

Incinerate in suitable incineration plant, observing local authority regulations.

This product and any uncleaned containers must be disposed of as hazardous waste.

Waste key: 08 05 01

Contaminated packaging:

contaminated packaging should be emptied as far as possible; than it can be passed on for recycling after being thoroughly cleaned.
