Diethyl oxalate is highly unstable in water and hydrolyses rapidly to Monoethyl oxalate, which, in a second step, forms Oxalic acid and Ethanol. Accordingly, the assessment of the environmental toxicity of Diethly ocalate was based on information available for these hydrolysis products. For more detailed information on the approach applied, please see the respective sections on the different aquatic species and the read-across justification attached to chapter 13 of this dossier.
