Description of key information

The viscosity of the solution depends upon the solids content and ranges from approximately 400 to 1800 mPa.s at 20ºC.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

There is a Technical Guidance Document approved reference for the viscosity of sorbitol (D-glucitol CASRN 50-70-4) stating 1.23 mPa s for a 5% solution at 20ºC and > 10000 mPa s for a 83% solution at 20ºC. In addition, the Roquette Freres MSDS for Polysorb 75/75 cites a viscosity of 1800 mPa s at 20ºC and for Neosorb 70/70 cites a viscosity of 400 mPa s at 200ºC. This information clearly demonstrates that the viscosity is dependent upon the solids content of the solution.
