Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
April 2012
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no
Key result
Test procedure:
other: Burning time over 100 mm of test substance
Burning time:
ca. 76 - ca. 126 s
Remarks on result:
other: Burning times over 100 mm of test substance are never less than 45 seconds upon testing 6 times.

The screening test resulted in a burning rate shorter than 4 minutes for 200 mm. Therefore the full burning rate test was performed. The sample burns, melts and flows out over the base plate.Burning times over 100 mm are shown in the table below:

Burning times over 100 mm of test substance were never less than 45 seconds. Therefore the test substance was not considered as highly flammable.

Interpretation of results:
other: CLP criteria not met
Remarks:
non flammable
Conclusions:
Under the study conditions, the test substance was considered as not highly flammable.

Executive summary:

A study was conducted to determine the flammability of the test substance in a preliminary and full study, according to EU Method A.10. The screening test resulted in a burning rate shorter than 4 minutes for 200 mm. Therefore, the full burning rate test was performed 6 times. Burning times over 100 mm of test substance were never less than 45 seconds. Under the study conditions, the test substance was considered as not highly flammable (Kamp, 2012).

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
pyrophoric liquids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied

Description of key information

The flammbility of the test substance was determined according to EU Method A.10 (Kamp, 2012).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

The test substance was found to be non-flammable in a guideline test; thus no classification is required for this endpoint according to EU CLP criteria (Regulation EC 1272/2008).
