Readily biodegradable: 83.6% (CO2 evolution) in 28 days (OECD 301B)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

Ready biodegradability of octadecan-1-ol ethoxylated (C18, < 2.5 EO) was investigated in two studies. A GLP study according to OECD guideline 301B has been assigned as key study (Croda, 2005). Based on CO2 evolution, the test item attained 83.6% degradation after 28 days of incubation. Hence, octadecan-1-ol ethoxylated (< 2.5 EO) can be classified as readily biodegradable under the strict OECD requirements.

The second study, which is only available as a short abstract, was conducted according to OECD guideline 301C (Croda, 1987). In this study the pass level of ready biodegradability was missed. Based on O2 consumption, a degradation rate of 57% is reported.
