Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
other:
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
other:
Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is completely molten at 160°C
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
25 Aug 2011
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: VTA(S)21N96017.03 (internal method)
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The test item was formed into a broken strip.
GLP compliance:
no

In the preliminary screening test the susbtance doesn´t ignite by a hot flame from a gas burner.

Description of key information

non flammable (EU Method A.10)
no pyrophoricity
no flammability on contact with water

not self-heating

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

No propagation of burning was observed in a test according to EU Method A.10. Based on assessment of the chemical structure of substance Octadecan-1-ol, ethoxylated, < 2.5 EO (CAS 9005-00-9) in combination with experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected. The substance is not self-heating, because it is a solid completely molten at 160 °C.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC)

1272/2008 and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification:

No propagation of burning in a test according to EU method A.10. Based on assessment of the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected. Self-heating is not expected, because the substance is completely molten below 160 °C.
