Additional information on results:
RANGE-FINDING/SCREENING STUDIES: A preliminary toxicity test was performed in strain TA98 at concentration range of 2.5-5000 µg/plate. Complete growth inhibition was obtained with methanesulphonic acid at levels of 2500 and 5000 µg/plate. Normal growth was obtained at 500 µg per plate. An intermediate level of 1000 µg/plate was therefore selected as the top exposure level for use in the main assays.
