Description of key information
No data are available for tris(2 -methoxyethoxy)vinylsilane (CAS 1067 -53 -4). A 21 day NOEC value of 28.1 mg/L has however been determined for the effects of a read-across substance, Trimethoxy(vinyl)silane (CAS 2768-02-7), on the reproduction of Daphnia magna. It is likely that the test organisms were primarily exposed to the hydrolysis product of the test substance, vinylsilanetriol. The NOEC is equivalent to 20 mg/L when expressed in terms of the silanol hydrolysis product, vinylsilanetriol.
A 21-day NOEC of =500 mg/L has been concluded for the effects of 2-methoxyethanol on the reproduction of Daphnia magna.

There are no reliable long-term invertebrate toxicity data available for tris(2 -methoxyethoxy)vinylsilane (CAS 1067-53-4), therefore good quality data for an appropriate structural analogue, trimethoxy(vinyl)silane (CAS 2768-02-7) have been read across. Both substances hydrolyse to the same hydrolysis product, vinylsilanetriol. The hydrolysis half-lives of tris(2-methoxyethoxy)vinylsilane and trimethoxy(vinyl)silane indicate that, under conditions relevant to ecotoxicity assessment, both will hydrolyse to vinylsilanetriol over the course of the test. The other hydrolysis products are 2-methoxyethanol and methanol, respectively; the properties of these substances are well characterised. Methanol is non-toxic to the environment and it is considered unlikely that its presence significantly affected the results of the test performed with trimethoxy(vinyl)silane.
A 21 day NOEC value of 28.1 mg/L has been determined for the effects of trimethoxy(vinyl)silane (CAS 2768-02-7) on the reproduction of Daphnia magna based on measured concentrations of the substance (MOE, 2006). The result was obtained under static test conditions. In view of the test media preparation method and exposure regime, it is likely that the test organisms were exposed predominantly to the hydrolysis products of the tested substance. The results are expressed in terms of the concentration of the hydrolysis product, vinylsilanetriol.
The results may be expressed in terms of the concentration of the hydrolysis product, vinylsilanetriol, by applying a molecular weight correction (MW of silanol / MW of parent) * concentration of parent = 106.15 / 148.24 * 28.1 mg/L = 20 mg/L.
The study was considered to be reliability 1 (reliable without restriction).
A 21-day EC50of =500 mg/l (nominal) has been determined for the effects of 2-methoxyethanol on the reproduction ofDaphnia magna,in a reliable study conducted according to OECD 211(Devillers et al., 2002).
