Description of key information

The melting point/melting range of the test item has been determined to be 45.8 ± 1°C (319 ± 1K) by differential scanning calorimetry, using ASTM E537-86, designed to be compatible with Method 102 of the OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals, 27 July 1995.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
45.8 °C

Additional information

A reliability rating of 1 was assigned to the key study, according to the criteria of Klimisch, 1997 as the study was conducted in accordance with recognised guidelines and GLP.

In a supporting study (Waterson et al, 1994) the melting point was determined to be 47°C.

A reliability rating of 4 was assigned, according to the criteria of Klimisch, 1997 as the value was obtained from government report however specifics of test were not reported.

Supporting information is also available from 2 Safety data sheets (Gelest, 2003 & Crompton, 2000). The results contained in these were 45-50°C and 43°C respectively.

A reliability rating of 4 was assigned as the safety data sheets are secondary source information.
