Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Vapour pressure (substance): 574 hPa at 20°C
Vapour pressure (silanol hydrolysis product, dimethylsilanol): 7.7 hPa at 20°C
Vapour pressure (silanol hydrolysis product, dimethylsilanediol): 7 Pa at 20°C

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Two reliable vapour pressures derived from measured data are available. In a study carried out according to EU Method A4, a vapour pressure of 574 hPa at 20°C was interpolated from data measured in the range 11 - 23°C. A vapour pressure of 583 hPa at 20 ºC was extrapolated from a temperature-vapour pressure correlation using peer-reviewed experimental data measured at temperatures ranging from 50 to 61ºC. Original test procedures and conditions used to measure the vapour pressures were not identified.

The two results are in good agreement.

Two supporting studies are available, the reliability of which could not be assigned. These gave results in agreement with the reliable results.

The substance hydrolyses very rapidly in contact with water, therefore, the vapour pressure of the hydrolysis products dimethylsilanol and dimethylsilanediol are also relevant. Values of 7.7 hPa and 7 Pa at 20°C have been calculated for dimethylsilanol and dimethylsilanediol, respectively, using an appropriate QSAR.
