PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Chlorodimethylsilane rapidly hydrolyses in the presence of water to dimethylsilanol and hydrogen chloride. Hydrogen chloride is inorganic and the PBT/vPvB criteria are not applicable. Dimethylsilanol was found to be not readily biodegradable on the basis of read-across from a related substance. Therefore, the substance meets the criteria for persistence (P).

Chlorodimethylsilane rapidly hydrolyses in the presence of water to dimethylsilanol and hydrogen chloride. Therefore, the substance will not bioaccumulate. The hydrolysis product, dimethylsilanol has a log Kow of 0.6 and, therefore, is considered not likely to bioaccumulate. Therefore, the substance does not meet the criteria for bioaccumulation; it is not B and not vB.

The substance is not classified for long-term human health effects (none of the following R phrases apply: R45, R46, R48, R49, R60 – R63). The substance is not classified for aquatic toxicity, on the basis of L(E)C50 values for fish, Daphnia and algae read-across from related substances. Therefore, the substance does not meet the criteria for toxicity; it is not T.

Conclusion : The substance hydrolyses rapidly in the presence of water; the hydrolysis product dimethylsilanol may persist in the environment and meets the P criteria. However, it does not meet the criteria for B or T. Therefore, the substance does not meet the criteria for PBT or vPvB.
