Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The influence of the test item on the growth of the freshwater green algal species Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was investigated in a 72 hour static test according to the OECD Guideline 201 (2006) and the Commission Directive (EC) No 761/2009, C.3.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
4.8 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
0.19 mg/L

Additional information

The effect of the test item 4,4’-methylenebis[N,N-bis(2,3-epoxypropyl)aniline] / ERC Nr 12 on the growth of the freshwater green algal species Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was investigated in a 72 hour static test according to OECD Guideline 201 (2006), the EU Commission Directive 92/69/EEC, C.3 (1992) and the Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008, C.3.

In order to test the toxicity of the test item containing different sparingly soluble components, water accommodated fractions (WAFs) with loading rates of 0.10, 0.32, 1.0, 3.2, 10, 32 and 100 mg/L were tested. A control was run in parallel. The preparation of the test media was based on the OECD Guidance Document on Aquatic Toxicity Testing of Difficult Substances and Mixtures, 2000.

For preparation of the WAFs, individual dispersions of the test item with the loading rates as mentioned above were prepared. The dispersions were stirred for 96 hours to dissolve a maximum amount of the different components of the test item in the dispersion. After the stirring period, the dispersions were filtered through membrane filters (0.45 µm). The undiluted filtrates of the dispersions were tested as WAFs. The WAFs with the lower loading rates of 0.10, 0.32 and 1.0 mg/L were prepared by dilution of the WAF with the loading rate of 3.2 mg/L due to technical reasons.

At the start of the test, the measured test item concentrations (based on main peak evaluation) in the test media with the loading rates of 0.10, 0.32, 1.0, 3.2, 10, 32 and 100 mg/L were 0.11, 0.41, 1.4, 1.4, 1.9 and 1.5 mg/L, respectively. At the end of the test, the measured concentrations in the test media were 0.046, 0.16, 0.66, 0.72, 0.97 and 0.73 mg/L, respectively.

The biological results were related to the loading rates of the test item and can be summarized as follows:

Parameter Growth rate Yield (0-72h)
EC10 (mg/L) 1.7 0.19 95% confidence interval 0.52–3.4 0.05–0.43
EC20 (mg/L) 18 0.57 95% confidence interval 10–30 0.21–1.1
EC50 (mg/L) >100 4.8 95% confidence interval n.a. 2.9–7.9
NOEC (mg/L) 0.32 0.32
LOEC (mg/L) 1 1
