Additional information

Although the product is handled in most cases as an reducing agent - which is oxidised during the application (intermediate) - there is a small likelihood of occasional exposure of the substance to sewage water. Additionally, the available data for the short term toxicity to fish were considered not to comprise sufficient significance for long-lasting effects in the aquatic environment and the derivation of a robust PNEC value was hardly possible.

For these reasons, a long-term study was proposed and a test proposal submitted to ECHA, initially containing OECD 204 as suggested study. However, ECHA recommended an OECD 210 study in the final decision which was accepted and conducted accordingly.

The NOEC value obtained from the long-term study is 13.5 mg/L and does not require a CLP classification of the substance into any of the hazard classes of aquatic toxicity.

No data available for marine water fish toxicity: no data required due to exposure considerations.
