Abiotic degradation:

In the atmosphere N-Methylethanolamine is expected to be indirectly photodegraded with a half-life of 4.867 hours

(EPIWIN calculation by Chemservice, 2010). Under environmental conditions no hydrolysis is expected for the substance. Considering the hydrolytic stability of the test substance, it should not be expected that hydrolytic processes will contribute to its degradation in the environment.


In laboratory tests ready biodegradability of N-Methylethanolamine was demonstrated (BASF, 1993).


N-Methylethanolamine has a very low potential for bioaccumulation in aquatic organisms.

Adsorption / Desorption:

Considering the low logPow of the substance N-Methylethanolamine of -0.91 (BASF, 1989) no testing of adsorption and desorption needs to be performed. In addition, the chemical is readily biodegradable.
