Additional information

The acute toxicity of the test substance in fish was assessed in the key study, Caspers (1989). The study was conducted in compliance with GLP and in accordance with the guideline German Federal Environment Agency Berlin, Date: May 1984. The method used was comparable to the OECD Guideline 202. The study was performed on a structural analogue of 3-methyl-5-phenylpentanol, the only difference between the two substances being the position of the methyl group. As such the results are considered to be representative of 3-methyl-5-phenylpentanol, and an accurate reflection of its ecotoxicological properties. Under the conditions of the test, the 96 h LC50 of the test substance was determined to be 13.3 mg/L.

The test substance used in this study was 2-methyl-5-phenylpentan-1-ol and the suitability of this substance to address this endpoint has been considered in the endpoint summary for the short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates. The results from available aquatic invertebrate study confirm that read-across from 2-methyl-5-phenylpentan-1-ol is suitable to address the short-term toxicity to fish of 3-methyl-5-phenylpentanol.
