Additional information

1-Chloro-2-methylbenzene is not readily biodegradable as 0 % of the test item were degraded after 28 d of incubation with a mixture of sewage, soil and natural water (CERI 1999).

In addition to the test on ready biodegradability, the potential degradation of 1 -chloro-2 -methylbenzene was investigated according to the OECD guideline 302b (Bayer AG, 1991). Despite the test showed an elimination of 86 % based on DOC measurements after 28 d, the results cannot be used to show the potential degradability of the test item under environmental conditions. DOC values determined 3 h after test begin provide evidence that the test item was eliminated preferably by physico-chemical processes (stripping or adsorption) rather than by degradation processes.
