Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
partition coefficient
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Remarks:
Guideline study performed in compliance with GLP, available as unpublished report, no restrictions, fully adequate for assessment.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.8 (Partition Coefficient)
GLP compliance:
yes
Type of method:
HPLC method
Partition coefficient type:
octanol-water
Specific details on test material used for the study:
- Name of test material (as cited in study report): Tetrabenzylthiuram disulfide
- Substance type: Monoconstituent substance
- Physical state: Solid
- Storage condition of test material: At room temperature in the dark
- Lot/batch No.: RB82 + RB87 + RB88 + RB92 + RB69
Analytical method:
high-performance liquid chromatography
Key result
Type:
log Pow
Partition coefficient:
ca. 3.7
Temp.:
20 °C
Remarks on result:
other: Second log Pow = 3.4 relates probably to a decomposition product
Conclusions:
The determination of log Pow by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) results in two log Pow
Executive summary:

The log Pow of the substance was interpolated from this regression line which was obtained from nine reference substances. Two partition coefficients (noctanol/water) were associated with the test substance and determined to be 2.5 * 10E3 (log Pow = 3.4) and 5.0 * 10E3 (log Pow = 3.7) at 20.0 ± 0.50 C. The lower value represents probably a decomposition product, the higher the test substance.

Description of key information

The test substance is not stable in water. With a High Performance Liquid Chromatographic method two partition coefficients (n-octanol/water) were determined to be 2.5* 10E3 (log P = 3.4) and 5.0 * 10E3 (log P =3.7) at 20.0 ± 0.50 C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
3.7
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

The pattern of a chromatogram of the test substance showed two different peaks, probably one derived from the test substance and one from decomposition product(s). The higher of the two log P values was associated with the original substance.
