The test item shows one small exothermic effect in the temperature range of about 310 -340 °C. This effect led only to a minor increase of the temperature. A second exothermic process started at a temperature of approximately 420 °C and led to final temperature of > 450 °C.

After the test, the wire basket was empty. Therefore, it can be concluded that the test item melted during the first self-igntion process and flowed out of the wire-basket. This limited the observed self-ignition considerably. The second self-ignition process can be ascribed to residues which have remained in the basket.

The test item did not show any seif-ignition process which led to a temperature of 400 °C during the heat up process of the oven up to 400 °C. Hence, the test item posesses no self-igntion temperature in the sense of the European Commission Regulation (EC) 440/2008, Appendix, Part A, A.16.

The test item exhibited a weak exothermic process at a temperature of 310 °C and a stronger exothermic process at a temperature of 420 °C. The former process is too weak so that it is not considered as a self-igntion. The latter process leads to an obvious temperature increase. This process must be considerd as a self-igntion. Thus, the test item shows a self-ignition at 420 °C in the sense of the guideline VDI 2263, sheet 1.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The test item posesses no self-ignition temperature in the sense of the European Commission Regulation (EC) 440/2008, Appendix, Part A, A.16. and a self-ignition temperature of 420 °C in the sense of the guideline VDI 2263, sheet 1.
Executive summary:

Self-ignition of the test substance was examined in a study according to EU test method A.16 and DIN guideline 2263. No self-ignition temperature in the sense of the European Commission Regulation (EC) 440/2008, Appendix, Part A, A.16 could be observed, while a self-ignition temperature of 420 °C in the sense of the guideline VDI 2263, sheet 1 could be determined.
