Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Due to their chemical structure and low water solubility, hydrolysis is not a relevant degradation pathway for isooctadecanoic acid.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex VIII 9.2.2.1 column 2 the testing for hydrolysis is not required for substances that are readily biodegradable. In general, Fatty acids have no hydrolysable groups and are therefore not susceptible to hydrolysis. Therefore, as none of the dimerised fatty acid category members has functional groups that are susceptible to hydrolysis and considering that Isooctadecanoic acid has a low water solubility (0.24 mg/L), they are expected to be stable in water under environmental conditions. Based on the stability and low water solubility of Isooctadecanoic acid hydrolysis does not contribute to abiotic degradation.
