Description of key information

The adsorption coefficient (Koc) of FORMAMIDOPROPYLBETAINE at neutral pH and 35.0 ± 1.0°C was < 2.1 x 10 (log Koc < 1.3)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The estimation of the adsorption coefficient (Koc) in soil and on sewage sludge using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was based on the following guidelines:

OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals, Proposal for a new guideline 121: "Estimation of the Adsorption Coefficient (Koc) on Soil and on Sewage Sludge using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)", January 2001.

European Community (EC), EC directive 2001/59 EC, C.19 "Estimation of the Adsorption Coefficient (Koc) on Soil and on Sewage Sludge using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)", EC Publication no. L225, August 2001.

According to these guidelines, the estimation of the adsorption coefficient (Koc) for test substances that are ionized for at least 10% within pH 5.5 to 7.5, should be performed with both the ionized and non-ionized form. Because the test substance is ionized at each pH value, it was decided to perform the HPLC analysis at neutral pH.

The adsorption coefficient (Koc) of FORMAMIDOPROPYLBETAINE at neutral pH and 35.0 ± 1.0°C was < 2.1 x 10 (log Koc < 1.3)
