Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The adsorption coefficient of n-butylchloride on soil (koc) of 316 (log Koc=2.5) was determined under GLP and according to OECD guideline 121 (HPLC).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Koc at 20 °C:
316

Additional information

A GLP-Guideline study determined the adsorption coefficient via HPLC method using seven reference compounds, Urea was used as dead time marker, according to OECD guideline 121 (adopted on 22nd January 2001) and under GLP. The resulting log Koc value was 2.5 at 25°C.

Additionally, a value was derived from calculation with kocwin 2.0 based on the molecular connectivity index and experimentally derived logkow values in the internal database (Evonik 2010). The calculated results ranged from log Koc values of 1.86 and 2.29 (koc values of 72 to 195 L/kg).

Low adsorption of n-butylchloride to organic material in soils is expected from the indicated results.

As additional information, a publication aimed at the derivation of a chromatographic model for the sorption of neutral organic compounds by soil from water and air reports a log Kaw value (adsorption of neutral OC at the air-water interface) of 1-chlorobutane of 3.789 (Poole and Poole 1999), with methane having a log kaw value of 1.203 and hexanoic acid a log kaw of 8.380.
