Additional information

The acute toxicity of 4-Nitrophenol to freshwater fish species and in one marine species is described in various publications and has been extensively reviewed by international groups of experts, i.e. BUA report No.75 (1992), IPCS CICAD (2000), ECB IUCLID (2000) and the US EPA under the HPV Chemicals Challenge Program (2004). Most of the studies were conducted according to different guidelines such as OECD 203, UBA Guideline or US EPA 1975. As test organisms rainbow trout (Onchorrynchus mykiss, formerly Salmo gairdneri), Fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas), catfish (Ictalurus punctatus), Blue gill sunfish (Lepomis macrochirus), and the marine sheephead minnow (Cyprinodon variegatus) were used. the test durations were 48 and 96h as well as 8 days. The lowest 96h-LC50 value of 3.8 mg/L was determined for rainbow trout (Onchorrynchus mykiss) (Howe et al. 1994).
