Extensive reviews and study citations on the environmental behaviour of 4 -Nitrophenol have been published (BUA report No.75 1992, IPCS CICAD 2000, ECB IUCLID 2000):

A low potential to bioaccumulate is to be expected from available valid test results for 4 -Nitrophenol. In static tests, accumulation factors of 11 for the green alga Chlorella fusca after one day (Geyer et al. 1981, cited from the IPCS CICAD 2000) and 57 for the freshwater golden orfe (Leucociscus idus) after 3 days of exposure were determined (Freitag et al. 1982; cited from the IPCS CICAD 2000). Zebra fish exposed to tap and river water nearly completely eliminated the accumulated 14C-4-Nitrophenol within 48h (Ensenbach & Nagel 1991, cited from the IPCS CICAD 2009). Star fish (Piaster ochraceus) and sea urchin (Stronglyocentrotus purpuratus) eliminated 89% and 36%, respectively, of injected 14C-4 -Nitrophenol (3.48 and 3.7 mg/kg bw, respectively) within 8 hours (Landrum & Crosby 1981; cited from the IPCS CICAD 2000).
