Description of key information

Carp exposed to 0.1 µg/ml and 0.01 µg/ml carbohydrazide showed the bioconcentration factors (BCF) of less than 3 and less than 6 respectively, over the period from week 2 to week 8 of the test.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

BCF (aquatic species):
6

Additional information

The bioaccumulation (bioconcentration) of carbohydrazide by carp (Cyprinus carpio) wasstudied in compliance with the method laid down by the Japanese Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) for testing new chemical substances.

[14C]-radiolabelled carbohydrazide was used for the bioaccumulation test, because of the difficulty to analyse carbohydrazide.

Carp exposed to 0.1 µg/ml and 0.01 µg/ml carbohydrazide showed the bioconcentration factors (BCF) of less than 3 and less than 6 respectively, over the period from week 2 to week 8 of the test, where BCF = concentration of carbohydrazide in fish (µg/g) / concentration of carbohydrazide in water (µg/ml).

Throughout the whole test period, none of the fish died or showed any obvious behavioral abnormalities.

The results indicate that carbohydrazide is not a bioaccumulative compound.
